Pesto: Italian style


Ligurian Riviera dop extra virgin olive oil and Genovese dop basil together to enhance two of the most famous products of Liguria.
The agreement was formalized by the Region of Liguria. In this regard the commissioner of Agriculture Giovanni  Barbagallo said: "Our goal is to make it clear to consumers that exist in the oil and basil in a Community trade mark of protected designation of origin that ties the quality product to its land production and that together we can better promote the Ligurian pesto recipe".

 Pesto is one of the most famous Ligurian dishes, spread throughout Italy and exported around the world. One of the highlights of Liguria, with its intense but gentle flavor.
The promotion plan of these two excellent Italian products provides a series of initiatives and events that will be spread in events and tastings in some Italian restaurants in Genoa, Milan and Turin, and in important trade fairs such as Vinitaly, Living Food, Cibus and Salone del Gusto, just to name a few.
The production of refined olive oil on Liguria is a very flourishing. The cultivation of olives began as far back as 3000 BC, even though its spread along the hilly regions has soared in the late eighteenth century.

The oil is a sweet and fruity oil, greenish in color shades and with an aftertaste of almonds and artichokes. The Ligurian extravirgin olive oil is great for seasoning caught, and the classic dishes of Mediterranean cuisine, such as pesto, exactly.
