The oil of Sorrento

Sorrento is not only sun, sea and landscapes. Sorrento is also a land that abounds with local products, the ingredients of a healthy and tasty cuisine, characterized by simple and inimitable flavors. Tomatoes, olive oil, mozzarella, lemons, nuts and precious Provolone del Monaco are just some of the fruits of the peninsula. Among the most popular products, extra virgin olive oil deserves a partisan discussion, so much to win the title of DOP product.

The Sorrento Peninsula extra virgin olive oil DOP has unique nutritional and aromatic qualities. The "green gold" shows a straw yellow color with greenish reflections. At the palate shows fruity and aromatic herbs. This oil is particularly suited for dressing salads and fish. The Sorrento’s oil is the result of a long tradition, dating back to the Greek domination. In the resort of Punta Campanella, the extreme tip of the peninsula, were found the remains of a temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Along the way have been found many oil containers which were offered in homage to the goddess.

The Sorrento’s oil is produced using quality Minucciola or ogliarola olives at a percentage no less than 65% that must be collected no later than December the 31st while the milling should take place in a maximum of two days from the collection. Strolling through Sorrento and along the hilly areas, it is not uncommon to see many olive groves. It is in a hilly area of the Sorrento peninsula, and more precisely in the locality of Sant 'Agnello, that is located the mill Gargiulo, which praises an history of over a century.

From a small oil mill, the mill Gargiulo has become a company dedicated also to the packaging and oil commercialization, a love for green gold that led to the creation of an e-commerce where to buy olive oil from Sorrento oil, chili olive oil, and oil with Sorrento’s lemons and oranges.
