Greco di Tufo

It is one of the rare wines of Campania, a white wine, the class rivals of the Fiano d'Avellino, who was born in the same area, the high hills of  Irpinia. Many people prefer it to Fiano for its sharper fruity and more lively flavor . Besides aging nearly as well, but emphasizes its quality already in the first 2-3 years, especially when it is served on plates of fish.
It is made from a variety of Greco, which was introduced in Calabria in the eighth century by Greek driven from their lands by a grave agricultural crisis, and waswidespread in many other regions by the Venetians during the Middle Ages, the variety called Greco B has found its ground in its election in its volcanic soil of Campania: first on the slopes of Vesuvius and only later on tuffaceous hills around the village of Tufo.
The Romans considered it the highest areas of Irpinia (so called from the Sabine hirpus, "wolf"), too wild to cultivate the vine. The merit of having emphasized in recent decades this area dedicated to wine should be ascribed to the Mastroberardino family and his faith in thenative grapes of the region. The Greco di Tufo is now the most successful white dry of land: light gold in color, has  thick, continuous and gentle aromas  where you can feel the sweet scents of peach, fig and toasted almonds, its taste is dry, it has however the body , and is nervous. It goes with vegetable dishes, seafood, calamari, with  sautéed  of clams, and has a strong preference for the mussel with pepper.
