Tignanello: a wine, a style


Today we talk about the Tignanello, firstborn of SuperTuscans. It’s the first of innovative wines that have shocked the wine history of Tuscany and all Italy. “Tignanello of the onset, that of the vintage of the 1971", Piero Antinori precises, "did not have these characteristics: it was a Chianti with no white grapes matured in barrels. Caused a sensation because it was more expensive than a table wine of the Chianti Classico Riserva.
But with the current blend, 85% Sangiovese, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc ,came to the second exit, which took place four years later, with the vintage 1975, after a long cooling-off and several experiments.  So yes it was very innovative: he created a new type of wine. The assembly of indigenous varieties of grapes and international varieties has spread as in Tuscany, outside Tuscany and outside of Italy".
From pioneering Tignanello wine has become a classic. A classic innovation.
Continue Antinori "are all convinced that I have invented Sangiovese-Cabernet blend. Hardly anyone knows that in reality had already been experienced by my father in the thirties when the Villa Antinori Chianti Classico was made with an addition of 5-10% of Cabernet and loved it because it was more elegant and complex than the others".
During World War Two the vines of cabernet were eradicated by a tenant who did not know them and not appreciated, but thanks to Piero Antonori were replanted in the late 60's in the same vineyard of Tignanello.
So was born the wine that has made history, noble and full bouquet, as they emerge roses, violets, incense, from dry, supported and safe taste, aristocratic and velvety, which remains long in the mouth. It is a red of unusual longevity, which is drunk with red meats, game, , cheese flavor very well seasoned.
