Wine regulation

Latest news about the organic wine production: the European Commission has postponed the Member States vote.
The 27 EU Member States representatives have expressed however a negative opinion about the regulation of the sulfites presence in an amount equal to 100 mg per liter for red wines and 150 mg per liter for white wines and rosé.
In general, the southern Europe countries, with the exception of Portugal, which has expressed in a negative way, have expressed a positive opinions, while the countries of northern Europe, characterized by a chronic sun shortage, have logically made a no vote and so they need to add the sulfates in the wine produced, in order to stabilize and increase the wine alcohol content.
Italy, one of the major wine producers, fights always for the organic wine regulation, to differentiate the high quality wine from non-organic wine, but rather produced by the massive use of additives.
So regulation is useful for the differentiation of the organic wine from the non-organic wine. In this sense this a further step forward in the consumer protection.
