Label for olive oil fraud


The TAR of Lazio dismissed the appeal lodged by some organizations representing mills and olive oil marketing companies, which have to bear the bureaucratic burden for the preparation of registers for tracing the product, as established by the legislation Community legislation. According to the TAR legislation does not affect the competition between companies in the olive oil sector and ensure that the final consumer can buy the product being available all the information about its provenance.
According to “Coldiretti”, tightening up controls at national and Community level, will help to ensure food safety for consumers and to defend the Made in Italy at the table. More and more food without being paid as Italians, in Italy the value of this market amounts to 70 billion diverted.
Currently required to indicate the variety, quality and provenance is provided for fruit and vegetables, eggs, honey, fresh milk, chicken, tomato sauce and extra virgin olive oil, while the label remains anonymous for meat pig, rabbit, lamb, pasta, canned vegetables, long-life milk and cheese, with a designation of origin.
