The Mediterranean diet as World Heritage Site

The Mediterranean diet is close to becoming a World intangible Heritage Site! The UNESCO has finally given the green light to the long-awaited recognition, which will now only be ratified by the Executive Committee of Heritage Convention, which will be held starting from the 14th to the 19th of November in Nairobi, Kenya.

A happy ending for the proposal submitted in 2007 by our country and by Spanish cousins and, later supported from Greece and Morocco.
It should be recalled that the Italian proposition was submitted by at the time Minister Paolo de Castro, who later became senator, who introduced a bipartisan parliamentary motion, strangely signed by more than 100 senators and agreed to consensus: at least about the Mediterranean diet our politicians are able to find a meeting point!

And then the Mediterranean diet can boast of the coveted title of World Heritage humanity, like the Great Barrier Reef, the Great Wall of China and Stonehenge!
Indeed, the Mediterranean diet is based on the consumption of foods such as cereals, fruits, vegetables, olive oil and a glass of one of many Italian wines.

The goodness and the quality of this diet have meant that Italians hold the record for longevity, in terms much higher than the European average.
So our diet is a good to safeguard, strictly connected to the historical and cultural heritage of our country and to all the Mediterranean countries.
So good Mediterranean diet at all!
